My name is Kyle Griffith, and I am the proud principal of Shirakawa School. Shirakawa is such a great community to be a part of because our staff, students, and parents work together as one big family, with students’ academic success as our #1 priority.
I greatly enjoy my role at Shirakawa School for many reasons:
First, and foremost, our staff is committed to keeping student achievement strong. Our custodians, secretaries, cafeteria staff, yard duty supervisors, and instructional assistants all help create a warm, safe, welcome, and clean environment for our students to learn.
Our teachers work long hours and continually partner together to examine student data, and put best-practices into place so that all students are challenged and see growth. They are a passionate, energetic, and wonderfully positive group of people to work with. I could not ask for a more amazing staff.
Secondly, I greatly enjoy the positive characteristics that our students embody. Our mascot is the Sharks, and we have developed an acronym that embodies what we want each student to strive for, K through 8th.
Lastly, I enjoy my role at Shirakawa because of the diversity and strong community support that we have here. We have students from several cultural backgrounds and languages, which is a real benefit to our students. Our students, I believe, will become better adults, because they have so many friends from interesting and diverse cultures. And, every day, you’ll find dozens of parents, helping out in our classrooms, which really supports the important learning that goes on here. We have a wonderful community!
A little about me:
I live with my family in Aptos, Santa Cruz County. When I’m not at school, I enjoy running the Redwood forests with my wife and dog, surfing with my son, and watching my daughter perform in ballet. We are an active family, and we greatly value education and the “growth mindset” for all four of us.
Our favorite vacation spot is Yosemite. We meet up with extended family in the winter, and we love hiking, biking, and swimming the rivers in summer.
I have been in education for 21 years. I taught elementary school and middle school for 11 years, and I have served as an administrator for 10. I have also coached middle and high school soccer, track, and softball. I loved being a teacher and coach, and I thoroughly enjoy, and take seriously, my role as principal. Partnering with families and teachers to make a positive impact in students’ lives is my passion.
Thank you for reading, and please feel free to stop by our front office if you should ever have any questions or need anything at all. We are here for you and your children.
Go Shirakawa Sharks!
