Mrs. Cortez and Ms. Lopez are our Kindergarten teachers.
 

Mrs. Cortez

This is Mrs. Rebekah Cortez's 17th year teaching at Shirakawa School. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies with a minor in English, Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, and Master's Degree in Education from Azusa Pacific University. When she's not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling to new places, and going to Disneyland.

 

Ms. Lopez

Ms. Adoracion Lopez went to college in Madrid, Spain, and got her Teaching Credential in California. She has been teaching in the Franklin McKinley School District since 2000 and really loves teaching little children! When she is not working,  she enjoys spending time with her son, going to the movies, and reading. She also loves meeting with friends and the beach!

 

 

End of Year Goals

 

Reading:

  • Know long vowels and vowel combinations
  • Blending 3 letter CVC words (cat, dog, bat, etc)
  • Comprehension (characters, setting, plot)
  • Read high frequency words (list will be given)
  • Know word families (-at family: cat, hat, fat)

 

Writing:

  • Use phonetic spelling (write what you hear: when is spelled “wen”)
  • Write a 3 sentence paragraph with topic sentence and supporting sentences
  • Use correct conventions (capitalization, punctuation, spacing, etc)
  • Indent first sentence of paragraph

 

Math:

  • Count to 100 by 1’s and 10’s
  • Write numbers 0-20
  • Place Value (identify ones and tens)
  • Measurement/capacity
  • Addition up to 10
  • Subtraction up to 10
  • Addition/Subtraction story problems

Homework Policy

Weekly packets

  • review of lessons learned
  • sent home on Monday
  • due on Friday
  • 2-3 pages per day
  • Read with/to your child for 10-15 minutes per day.

 

Check your child’s Homework folder on Monday and Green folder on Friday.

**Homework will begin after Labor Day

 

Materials needed in class: (donations are always appreciated)

  • Glue sticks
  • Kleenex
  • Lysol/Clorox wipes
  • Baby wipes
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Ziploc (brand) plastic bags: ALL sizes (snack, sandwich, quart, & gallon)
  • EXPO dry-erase markers (black)
